Illegal bird deaths rise in UK, RSPB reports

A sparrowhawk on the ground.

A sparrowhawk inside one of our chicken pens.

We have goshawks and sparrowhawks on the croft, so it was worrying to read the Guardians article about the UK’s uplands losing birds of prey as buzzards, sparrowhawks and peregrine falcons are shot dead or poisoned.

Even though they attempt to prey on our Scots Grey poultry, I enjoy seeing birds of prey wheeling on the air currents above the croft and zipping between the trees.
