‘Is it on, boss?’

Snow doesn’t stop Harvey. Electric fences do. When he find his path blocked by an electric fence, he barks to ask if it’s on or off. If it’s off, I call him through. If it’s on, I’m expected to lift him over it and he’ll wave a paw until I do. He has it sorted.

A cold, snowy year

The last snow of the 2009/2010 winter fell on the croft on 10 May. The first snow of the 2010/11 winter fell on the croft on 20 October. We’ve had deep snow cover on the croft since last Wednesday.

‘It’s a bit deep, packleader’

Harvey, our Border Terrier, doesn’t mind the cold too much. But he does object to ploughing through snow that’s deeper than he is tall. Fortunately for him, we keep a number of tracks open around the croft and have a large clear space for parking the Land Rover.

Do sheep enjoy a nice view?

I suspect the neighbouring farmer will be over soon to collect his sheep. Our ridge is too exposed lacks trees on this, the western side.
