Tweet, tweet

No, I haven’t turned into a canary.

In the past few months I’ve had about 20 people ask if I use Twitter or have plans to do so.

The number has escalated since Sharon in the city suggested I tweet about our problems with Abbey.

So, as of this afternoon, I’ve joined the Twitterers.

Or perhaps that should be the Twitocracy? Definition: A bunch of twits with a lot to say about nothing.

I’m not sure if I will maintain a presence on Twitter for long as I already have a heavy workload around the croft, have the blog to write and Facebook to update.

I also need a few moments to read a book now and again. (Yes, old tech but I prefer the tactility of paper to e-books and find them easier on the eye as well.)

In the meantime, though, you can find my “tweets” here…

  1. Nooooooooo. Is there no hiding place from the Twitterati?

I must admit, we’ve found Twitter pretty useful, as a means to advise folks in advance of shows/food festivals we’ll be attending; plus informing our customers of new outlets, promotions, etc.

It’s been a generally positive experience; however I am getting thoroughly fed-up with all the uncensored, X-rated, ‘junk’ Twits (& I DO mean Twits: I am being verrry polite, here – as these are not genuine Tweets) we increasingly receive: thank goodness we get to vet & block them before any damage can be done.

Regardless, good luck – hope you get to sell more pigs this way. Any chance of getting your unsold stock butchered & sold in various delectable forms, sold at Farmers’ Markets & gaining you a decent return rather than the continuing frustration you’re suffering…?

Eurgh, genuine local food production is so painfully hard: I just wish consumers genuinely opened their eyes as to what we have to do & are indeed forced, to go through; to offer them the finest food from the most ethical, responsible, natural AND tasty, sources we artisans ceaselessly strive to provide.

  3. Arrgh noooo! twitter is the devil, bl**dy phone going beep all day, I lasted about three hours before I decided I really could live without it, and don’t get me started on ‘text’ as a substitute for speaking to people…..
Sorry to read about your onward going struggle with the Abbey, perhaps you could post a suitable phone number we could all ring to enquire if they have got their act together yet?

    • I don’t have a mobile phone. :D

And I’m not using Twitter as a substitute for talking to people. I don’t get much chance to talk to people on a day-to-day basis so the blog, Facebook and possibly Twitter are my means of avoiding relative isolation. They also keep me in touch with people all around the world, effectively bring me closer to people I’d otherwise not have met.

Twitter may also allow me to give people a better idea of my day. Today, for example, I spent much of the afternoon inside trying to resolve the problems with Abbey, organising next week’s trip to the abattoir, talking to people who may or may not want to buy pigs, and doing other paperwork. The downside is that I “lost” all that time to other, more interesting jobs around the croft.

  4. I have spent the last 1/2 hour trying to find the entry with the recipe for rosemary & sea salt crackers? tried search with ‘crackers’ ‘rosemary’ no luck, then tried the drop down tag menu and looked through all the recipes, still no luck, can you remember the recipe I mean? and if so any idea where it is on here, ( like you have all the time in the world to do search for challenged readers…..)
I have made them before, and have the baking urge tonight.

Yes, this is the kind of thing I’m there for. I use email or the phone for real-people-I-know communication.

(BTW, Stonehead, I’m your follower with a user name that starts with “pins”.)

  6. It may be possible to feed Twitter into Facebook (I don’t understand either and haven’t mustered the energy to learn, but I saw a reference to that interface somewhere in the last 2-3 days.

    • I managed to work out how to do it, thanks, but, as is so often the case, doing so leads to some people complaining about duplication. If I don’t manage to cover all bases, someone whinges. If I do cover all bases, someone whinges.

I’m going to continue doing it as it means I can update both in one go and not have to double my workload.
