Pickled beetroot

We picked our first two pounds of beetroot today before pickling them using another of Mary Norwak’s recipes. It’s a little different to usual as it includes mustard powder in the pickle, which should make for an interesting flavour.

Final FMD restrictions lifted, but…

Defra has announced the completion of all testing within the Foot and Mouth Disease Surveillance Zone in Surrey, which means all remaining movement restrictions are to be lifted from tomorrow – including those in Scotland. Growing larger

Peggy-Sue, a bantam Scots Grey, is kept to rear the chicks of the full-size Scots Greys. She has six at the moment, which makes for a funny sight when they all try to cram under her wings at night. They’re now four weeks old.
